Tire Rotation on AWD Vehicles
When to Rotate Your Tires
In a front-wheel-drive vehicle, the front tires will wear faster because the engine generates power to the front wheels. For rear-wheel-drive vehicles, the power from the engine is sent to the rear wheels which causes them to wear quicker. To figure out how and when to rotate your tires, refer to the list below:
- For RWD or FWD vehicles, tire rotation should occur as recommended by your owners manual or every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
How to Rotate Your Tires
- FWD vehicles require you to move the rear wheels to the front then switch sides. For instance, the rear right tire will move to the front left spot. When you move the front tires back, keep them on the same exact side.
- RWD vehicles require you to flip the process above. Move the front tires to the back on the same sides but move the rear tires to the front and switch sides.
- Depending on road conditions, tire rotation may need to be carried out more often.
