How often should you rotate your tires for FWD and RWD vehicles? For FWD vehicles, the engine sends power to the front wheels, and it’s the opposite for RWD vehicles. Here’s when to rotate your tires for each drivetrain:
- We generally recommend rotating your RWD or FWD tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Your owner’s manual will state any specific tire rotation information based on your make and model.
- For a RWD vehicle, you’ll need to perform the rearward cross when rotating your tires. Move the front tires directly back, then the back tires forward, switching sides for the given tires.
- For FWD drivetrains, move your rear tires to the front and flip sides for each tire. Make sure that the rear right tire goes to the front left, and the rear left goes to the front right. When moving the front tires back, they can stay on the same side. This is a forward cross pattern.
